The Green Kayak
Over the weekend I had another awesome adventure. This past year I joined the Outdoors Club at school. Through out the year the club does various outdoors trips and activities, as well as, some volunteer work. I have to say, the group of people in this club are some of the most down-to-earth people I know. They are kind, welcoming and always up for an adventure with friends, new and old. I am inspired by them and so lucky to know them. They are my kind of people.
This weekend we camped out in Wharton State Forest in the Pinelands. The place was amazing. Our campsite was right near the river and we had access to a number of hiking/off-roading trails. There was a nice rugged path that led down to the river, so some of the guys decided to take one of the old kayaks and ride down the hill into the water. It took a few tries (plus a few bumps and bruises) but eventually, the luge-like kayak was able to make it down the path relatively smoothly and got the brave rider safely in the water. We almost lost the kayak on one trial and by the end of the trip the kayak was so beaten up, they decided it would be best to say good-bye and send it down stream to live a new life. It was such a simple activity, but it really defined the trip for me.
Other than kayaking down a hill, we took the Jeeps off-roading, sat around a camp fire, jumped off a bridge, swung on rope swings into the river, hiked, walked on the slack line and ate some delicious food. All in all, it was a great trip with great people and the perfect way to spend a weekend in the summer. These photos will tell the story a little better than me, so please scroll through and enjoy!
Candidly yours,
Michelle
